Nothing better than adding almonds to a meal to give it some crunch and that nutty flavour.

Nuts are actually the seeds of plants, and seeds have a protective mechanism: anti-nutrients.

From an evolutionary perspective, anti-nutrients protect a plant’s seeds from being destroyed by the digestive tract of animals.

This way the animal’s toilet visit gives the seed a new location, along with the soil it needs to grow. Reproduction in action.

We humans cannot digest the fats and proteins in nuts perfectly either, which is why we can not harvest all their calories [Novotny 2012, Baer 2016].

Our software and app (www.instagram.com/weekmeals) actually takes this into account.

By the way, we didn’t say anything about peanut butter. So don’t overdo it on the ‘tablespoons’! But maybe you could give the almond butter an extra lick or two?
